Google Geocoding API pricing, after the 2025 change

The 2026 rates, the free tier, and the cheaper way.

10,000 free calls a month Then $5.00 per 1,000 The old $200 credit is gone
WHAT IT COSTS

How much does the Geocoding API cost?

Google reworked Maps pricing on March 1, 2025. Figures below are from Google's official pricing page, checked August 4, 2026.

The old $200 monthly credit is retired. In its place, every Core Services SKU gets its own free monthly threshold.

Geocoding sits in the Essentials tier: 10,000 free calls per month, then $5.00 per 1,000 calls up to 100,000 monthly events. The rate steps down bracket by bracket as volume grows. The full ladder:

Monthly volumeRate
First 10,000 callsFree
10,001 to 100,000$5.00 per 1,000
100,001 to 500,000$4.00 per 1,000
500,001 to 1,000,000$3.00 per 1,000
1,000,001 to 5,000,000$1.50 per 1,000
Beyond 5,000,000$0.38 per 1,000
THE QUICK ANSWER

Cost per 1,000 requests, and the free tier

The two numbers most people came here for, spelled out.

Per 1,000 requests: $5.00, once you are past the free threshold and under 100,000 events a month. That is half a cent per address. At higher volume the brackets above kick in, down to $0.38 per 1,000 past 5 million.

The free tier: 10,000 geocoding calls a month, roughly 330 a day. It resets on the 1st, unused calls do not roll over, and the threshold is per SKU, so free geocoding calls do not share a pool with Places or Maps calls.

One catch before you compare: the Geocoding API runs through Google Cloud. Even free-threshold usage needs an active Cloud billing account with a card attached.

REAL-WORLD MATH

What do common volumes cost?

Two clean examples inside the first pricing tier.

Geocode 50,000 addresses a month: the first 10,000 are free, the remaining 40,000 bill at $5.00 per 1,000, so $200 a month. Geocode 100,000 a month: 90,000 billable, $450 a month.

The free threshold resets monthly and unused allowance does not carry over.

THE BUSINESS SHORTCUT

Geocoding businesses? Skip a step

A lot of geocoding spend is really business lookups: take a company list, find each one, get coordinates. There is a shorter path.

CrustAPI's place search returns every business with latitude and longitude already attached, along with name, full address, phone, website, category, rating, and review count, in one call.

Instead of find-then-geocode, one request per market returns located records at the Maps rate per business, about $1.96 per 1,000 at the entry pack. When the thing you locate is a business, the geocoding step disappears.

BEFORE YOU ASK

Common questions

After 10,000 free calls a month, $5.00 per 1,000 calls up to 100,000 monthly events, then $4.00 per 1,000 between 100,001 and 500,000, $3.00 up to 1 million, $1.50 up to 5 million, and $0.38 beyond that. Checked on Google's pricing pages, August 4, 2026.

Yes. The Geocoding API runs through Google Cloud, so even free-threshold usage needs an active Cloud billing account with a card attached. The 10,000 free calls reset monthly and unused allowance does not carry over.

No. Google retired the $200 monthly credit on March 1, 2025 and replaced it with a free monthly usage threshold per SKU. Geocoding's threshold is 10,000 calls a month.

The first 10,000 are free and the remaining 40,000 bill at $5.00 per 1,000, so $200 a month. At 100,000 calls it is $450 a month.

If the addresses belong to businesses, a place search returns each business with latitude and longitude already attached, plus phone, website, category, and rating, at the Maps rate per business, about $1.96 per 1,000 at the entry pack.

Use a real geocoder for that. Home addresses, rooftop precision, and reverse geocoding are exactly what Google's Geocoding API is built for; the business shortcut does not cover them.

No. Funds are prepaid and never expire, and You can try it free with no card required.
